Well, in a short time, the number of cats I had increased quite a bit, but the costs, expect for the vet costs, did not really increase all that much. With scooping litter, it only means more clumps scooped out, not a total replacement of the litter. And a couple of extra litter boxes is not a major cost item.
Food is bought in bulk, and food really is not a major item so the extra food used is not really a factor.
One question to ask is if you have additional room for one or more litter boxes, and if you get three, you really don't want all three in a row.
Oh, your cat would never admit to being spoiled! My cats rarely get treats, but when I recline on the sofa, I often get four of my cats laying on me, so they seem totally content. Love and affection means more to them than fancy items.
As far as toys, if you purchase a fancy and expensive toy, you may find your cat is more interested in playing with the box or bag it came in anyway.
I would suggest, if you want a kitten, to get one that is already spayed or neutered. Then, consider how you want to do an introduction. That will be important.

I am also 14 and i own 5 cats! My family isn't exaclt that well off in the money area, but we find it isn't that big of a problem. Of course you will find it is a little more money than having just the one cat, as of food/litter/vaccinations, but this isn't a major deal. You may find you won;t need to buy as many kitten toys for your new one, as he/she will have the odler cat to play with. Your cat will benefit form having a companion, most cats love it! But still be prepared to have to pay vet bills if something were to happen to your kitty. Yes you will have to buy it some new toys, but you wont have to fork out loads no...

I have three cats and love them all! Having two doesn't cost that much more. My kitten's favorite toy: the ring off of the milk jug, that plastic piece you have to peel off to open a gallon of milk. He loves that ring. We've bought him all kinds of toys but he always finds something around the house that he would prefer to play with. Cats don't need toys, they find things that entertain them. Enjoy your boy and I hope you get a second cat.

The cost should only be marginally more for food and vet visits. Other than that you have everything you need.

I have two cats as well, and aside from the vet bills, extra food, litter and insurance, which you addressed, a second cat really will not cost you much more. Especially if your cats get along well with each other and will share toys and bedding. Make sure you read up on tips to introducing a new kitten into the household, and give your older boy lots of love and attention so he doesn't feel like he's been replaced!
I have a 20 month old spayed female and a 4 month old female kitten that we just adopted.
It took about two weeks of hissing and complaining by my older cat but everyday they are getting friendlier and friendlier with each other and play for hours!
