I believe my cat has diabetes.I have had him for 8 years and I love him so much. But I dont think I will have the money to keep taking him to the vet and getting him insulin. He is alive and healthy. He just can only walk short distances before he gets tired,His legs are weak they give on him.He cant jump alot like he used to.I dont know what to do.I do not want him to go blind and then senial and then his body shuts down. But I dont think I can afford his doctor bills, and I cant find pet insurance to cover in west virginia. Please give me some suggestions.I want the best for my kitty.

you have kept your poor kitty for 8 years now, and i think it would be best if you keep him. adoption is a option but he may not respond to that well, its likely that he might run away and thats pretty dangerous. true?. just keep him and just let him stay around in the house, if he cant work in a certain speed and stuff dont force him. just let him be.
expecially if he is old.
good-luck

Most vets will set up a financing plan for larger bills. Talk to your vet. Whatever you do, please get your cat in to a vet soon, 8 years old is very young for a cat, and he could have a lot of life and love in him still.
Vets are vets because they love animals, and I know mine was willing to set up a financing plan when I couldn’t pay for my dog’s emergency surgery. Good luck!

Take him to the vet and get a positive diagnosis; part of your statement says you “believe” he has diabetes but you can’t be sure of this. He could have a thyroid condition, or cancer, or any number of things – you need to find out. You can’t make a good decision about what to do for him if you don’t know what’s wrong. Part of being a pet owner is providing medical care. Not doing so could be considered animal abuse. 8 isn’t that old for a cat. One of mine is 16 and she’s frisky and healthy; looks like she’ll be around another 5 years or so!

If you’re cat is going blind, then it’s best to only let it outside when you can keep an eye on it(this prevents accidents) As for the Diabetes, i believe that(Though im in England not the USA so it may be diffirent) you can get special Diabetic cat foods, also, there are cat biscuits that help aching bones, and eases the pressure on their bones. But you’re cat doesnt appear to have any Mental Illnesess, so i wouldnt worry about it going senile. Jumping skill does decline when cats get older, so this is natural.
Hope your cat gets better
P.S Why not try an online insurance company? i’m sure there are plenty.
P.P.S I think, if you take my advice, that you’re cat will be ok, i have 2 cats myself.

Like others have said you really need to make sure what your cat has.
I have a cat that’s been a diabetic for 8 years. His insulin costs 30.00 and it last 8 weeks. It’s not that expensive.

It’s really sad. Try to find a relative or a friend who can take him in and care for him. If you can’t do that, turn him over to a no kill shelter (be sure to offer a donation). I hope you find your kitty a good home. ♥

I agree with Ellie. At least take your cat to the vet for a diagnosis. Don’t let the poor cat suffer! The vet can tell you your options after making the diagnosis. Eight years is indeed relatively young for a cat. I have 3 twelve year old cats that are active and healthy. I think a good diet is essential. Take him to the vet ASAP. Tell the vet your concerns and see what he/she can do to help you and your cat. Good luck and please post an update.
