What Is The Grace Period To Dispute A Payment?

December 30th, 2009 → 6:24 pm @ // 3 Comments

In march 07 I started a pet insurance for both my dog and cat. They are a horrible company to deal with and honestly I dont believe they are even legit. They have not covered anything that they said they would. I no longer want to be binded with that company can I dispute it? They did not do what was agreed in the contract. I am paying more for the insurance than what the vet visits would cost.

Assuming you paid for this by a credit/debit card and are asking about disputing it with the issuing bank. Then you have 60 days from the date the FIRST statement with the error was sent(not the date you received it). So if the statement was sent on March 20th you had until May 19th to file the dispute(Adjust your dates accordingly).
However, you have to be careful in disputing the charge. A lot of time with insurance(human and animal) there are several clauses that restrict what is covered. There are also usually waiting periods for certain procedures. If these are in there and the reason you were not covered then you will not prevail on the dispute. So you need to read through the entire coverage document to verify what was covered.
If there is nothing like that at all and they just did not pay it you can dispute it. However, you have to do this in writting, sending in all proof as to why you are disputing it. When you get your statement there will be information on the back as to where to send the dispute. If you do not agree to the result then your next step would be to file a small claims case against them.

It depends on how you paid, if you used your debit card it is 30 days…if you used a credit card it is between 30 and 60 days depending on the type of purchase.
