What Could It Be If My Cat Is Peeing Pink (blood)?

I took my cat-a 3 yr old Tortie, female-to the vet a week ago because I noticed she wasn’t peeing. They gave her a strong antibiotic and she’s been peeing fine. This morning I thought I noticed it may be a little pink, but when I got home, she peed as normal w/o discoloration. She just peed now, though, and it most definitely was tainted pink.
The wet food I gave her this morning was kind of dark and reddish looking, could it be that? I don’t see how she could have an infection w/ that strong an antibiotic in her. She’s had no illnesses or prior health concerns, except for a UTI once before when my friends owned her.
She’s playful, chases shoelaces, has been eating, pooping, and peeing normally, and when I pet her, she isn’t in pain nor does she scream or swat at me. She’s far from lethargic as well.
Thanks to any info you guys can give me-I just signed her up for pet insurance as I’ve been unemployed for most of the last year and hopefully it will kick in soon or she’ll be better.

Unfortunatly this can be 101 things. I’d call the vet in the morning and ask them what they’d suggest. Most likely they will get another urine sample and go from there. She might not have cleared the infection entirely or it was misdiagnosed. Those would be the first two most common things.
It is unlikely to have been the food but nice observation there!

Since you did a round of antibiotics, got better, but now pink again, I would say she may have stones rolling around her bladder. Think about it. Stones are usually very irregular in shape, depending on what kind they are, often spikey looking. I would get some x-rays done to rule that out.

As others have said it could be one of many things. Since she still has signs of a UTI you need to ask your vet to investigate further. Ask the vet to do a contrast x ray and/or an ultrasound exam to establish if there are stones or anything else present.

I would call the vets office and update them with her current condition. It sounds like she may an infection. It is possible that the first course fo the antibiotics did not clear up the infection. She may need another round of antibiotics.

I would call the vet as soon as the office opens in the morning.
