They probably won’t insure your cat considering it has pre existing conditions… Also most pet insurance places suck. We’ve dealt with them alot and there are alot of loopholes in their contracts. Try something like Care Credit, you can see if you vet accepts it. It’s kinda like a credit line that will pay the vet bill for you then you have to pay them back. (since most vets won’t set up a payment plan any more). It’s a pretty neat program with a very low interest rate

Kayty’s advice is good.
I don’t know VPI (maybe they don’t have it in England) but just read the small print carefully, or phone them and ask questions before taking out a policy. You really want something that covers lifetime conditions in animals, not one of the rubbish cheap policies that will only pay out for each condition once.
Generally the more expensive the policy, the better the cover. Pet Plan is the best one I know.
Your cat won’t be covered for the illnesses/injuries she currently has, but hopefully they’re not lifelong and insurance will then pay out for any other illnesses or injuries in the future. You won’t be able to get help for your current bill I’m afraid though – no insurance company will let you claim for illnesses/injuries presenting within two weeks of taking the policy out.
The only other thing is insurance companies won’t insure cats and dogs over a certain age, so unless the vet says it’s very obvious the cat is under 8 (the usual limit) they won’t insure.

Hi there,
Unfortunately no pet insurance company will pay for treatment that relates to an existing condition (or conditions). However, Pet Plan (which I use) and many others will still insure the cat for any future injuries or illnesses. With Pet Plan (and most others) you have to pay an excess of £40 towards treatment for each new injury/illness. You should also read the terms and conditions very careful and be sure that you know what the protection covers.
I suggest that you call both VPI and Pet Plan and also Google ‘pet insurance’ for more companies, then give them a call. To be honest, all the major companies have pretty similar policies. Oh, I do know that Pet Plan are doing an offer at the moment where you can get the first two months free if you buy online.

I don’t have pet insurance because it was all too expensive and didn’t cover enough things
If you just found this cat 3 days ago she may simply be lost and the owner could turn up still. If you get the treatment, you may be out the money when an owner tries to claim her. Just something to be aware of.

I haven’t dealt with VPI pet insurance, I use Tesco’s, but I thought I should warn you that most insurance companies won’t cover anything within the first four weeks so if they’re urgent treatments you will have to either wait or pay for it yourself
