I was wondering if getting pet insurance is worth the monthly fee? I read the similar questions on Yahoo Answers and it was about 50-50. I am asking because my cat became very ill over the past few days and we ended up having to take her to an emergency clinic. They ended up keeping her over night and quoted me $879 for treatment and $1,130 for worst case seneario. I put the deposit down of $879 and they ran tests and started her on IV fluids. Then they called and told me they have to do an abdonmial ultrasound for $300 and they are still not sure why she is so sick.
I know getting insurance will not cover this incident, but I really do not want to be caught off guard again.
My question is what would you do, get the insurance for peace of mind next time or take your chances and hope for healthy pets? I was quoted $350/year for 2 cats. Accidents, illness, hospital stays, lab test and meds covered
If you have pet insurance do you think it was worth it or a waste of money?

I think it’s worth it; just make sure your vet accepts the pet insurance.
My brother has pet insurance and his beagle ate (chewed up and swallowed) his plastic water bowl and couldn’t go to the bathroom for 3 days. The surgery to remove the bowel blockage was over $4,000. The insurance covered the surgery and my brother only had to come out of pocket for the emergency doctor visit ($120).

Firstly, I really hope your cat gets better and what a lucky cat it is to have an owner like you. We recently went through the same thing and our little Rambo came out of it after weeks of treatment and scans we had no insurance either to cover the cost. However we have completed insuring both our cats today at a similar cost to the one you were quoted. I really think it is worth it. Again best wishes to you and your pet. I hope all goes well for you.

it’s worth it if your animal gets really sick. The insurance companies always win. How are you at saving? Put the money in a savings account. Then if something does happen you have that money, if not you’ve still got your money.
