How Much Would Pet Insurance Have Cost?

---get a cat insurance quote---

About a year ago, my 8 year old tabby cat was hit by a car and fractured his pelvis.
I found him in the back yard (he had climbed over the fence in his condition) and rushed him to an all night animal hospital that’s about 45 minutes away. I had to sign a form saying that I would pay for anything that they had to do to Oliver. I loved him, so I signed it and they took Ollie in for emergency surgery.
All added up, ollie’s accident cost $2,500(au)
If I had pet insurance for him for his whole life, would that have been cheaper?
I was thinking of getting it for my dogs but I can’t seem to work out if it’s necessary.

    Hi there,
Pet Insurance is a good thing for accidents of this type. Since it was not a “previous” condition, you may have actually had to pay about 20% of the cost of the entire bill yourself, depending on what the co-pay or deductibles your policy costs.
Two of the better Pet Insurance companies in the USA are: http://www.aspcapetinsurance.com/http://www.petinsurance.com/
I have pet health insurance for both my 9 year old cats. I have collected several times on their annual wellness exams and dental work.
What it actually is best for is to cover serious injuries and illnesses that are not pre-existing. My personal feeling is, however, is putting aside a good sum each month, starting when the pet is very young, probably is the best way to go. Of course this has to be done very consistently.. so the size of the account is sufficient to cover any devastating vet treatment, with those huge bills.
I began our cat’s health insurance when they were 8 years old, which of course is more expensive than when kittens, but for me I worry about serious illness that most of the reputable companies will cover, up to $5,000.
    I pay 37.90 a month.
    Hope this helps,

The pet insurance I see here is $40 (US) a month, which is fairly steep and it doesn’t cover a lot of things. It would really depend on what type of pet insurance you have available there.
