Expertise Regarding A Concussion?

---get a cat insurance quote---

Well long story short a night out celebrating my friends bday ended with a fight and I got kicked in the head. I remained conscious throughout the night and didn’t think much of it. I woke up the following morning to find a large tender lump on the side of my head (directly above my right ear) and was experiencing dizziness for almost the entire day. Eating has been somewhat difficult as it hurts when I open my jaw past a certain point. I did NOT vomit or experience any kind of nausea. My neck is stiff and just about every muscle in my upper body is sore. Now normally I’d think nothing of it and just rest for a couple of days but back in August my friend hurt his head, lost consciousness, had a cat scan and there was infact bleeding. Now worry is do I need a cat scan? I know you’re going to say go see your doc but being unemployed and without health insurance kind of makes me only want to go if I truly need to. There’s no black and blues, just swollen above the right ear area. All help is greatly appreciated!!!

I’ve had quite a few concussions myself, with all the symptoms you’ve described here, so I’d consider my self an expert. Considering there is a bump on the outside of your head and you didn’t vomit, I’d say its just a mild concussion. If the pain doesn’t go away or the bump doesn’t go down within a week or you start to feel worse, I would recommend you get it checked out. It might not be a bad idea to get it checked out though, just in case. Hope you get better and good luck!!

Concussions are generally caused when there is swelling inside the head. If there is a bump on the outside then you should be ok.

What your friend had is not concussion but a subdural bleeding, even after a trauma to the head, you may still feel ok but still can have minute bleeding inside until it builds up and causes symptoms to the patient. I cannot for certain tell if you have head injury or trauma. The best that you can do if you are financially unable to get a ct scan is to observe, if there is persistence of this dizziness then I strongly suggest you see a doctor and get a ct scan but if it subsides then good, the usual symptoms of a concussion are nausea, vomiting, incoherence, groggy, continues sleeping or always sleepy, agitation and dizziness…if you dont have these, chances are that you are ok. You are experiencing dizziness, however your injury is just above your right ear, and your ears are responsible also for balance when we walk so somehow the trauma could have afftected your balance causing these dizziness. As for the subdural bleeding part, if you have this, then just observe, this can take days, weeks or months before symptoms will shows. The pain and stiffness in your neck and upper body, well most likely are muscle pains, a simple pain reliever would do. But I dont suggest you taking any form of pain reliever at this time because it will mask the symptoms of a head trauma if you take pain killers. Just rest. Hope I was of help, next time be more careful, just drink and be merry, dont get into fights because its really expensive to get sick these days.
