Do You Have Pet Insurance?

Ok, I’ve been browsing and noticed that a lot of people on here seem to have sick or injured pets, but refuse to take them to the vets because they claim they can’t afford it.
I had a cat who broke her leg, I didn’t have insurance as she was a house cat and I didn’t think I needed it… til one day the poor thing ran out and got hit by a car.
She’s fine now, but it did cost me a fortune in Vet bills, I had to take on a 2nd temp job to pay them and I was lucky enough the vet let me pay the bill at £100 a month. The total cost of the vet bill was £1200.
After that I ALWAYS got pet insurance whether or not my pet was an indoor or outdoor pet… ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!
So, what do you think of these people that don’t have pet insurance but have a sick pet, yet still refuse to treat it?
Do you think when you buy/ adopt a pet – be it from a breeder or an animal shelter – that insurance should be compulsary, I certainly do.
I breed cats and would never dream of giving one of them to someone that wouldn’t care for them properly, and this includes seeing to their medical needs and safety… not just love, care and affection

I have my cat insured as I know from experience the cost of treatments should anything go wrong- it irritates me a bit when people say it isn’t worth it, as it shows they either don’t think anything will happen to their pet or they don’t realise how quickly bills can mount up. Unless someone has plenty savings they should have insurance-the fact that so many don’t is why this section of YA is so busy! It’s the price of a bar of chocolate a week.

I have my horse insured, this is only so that if something happens to him and he dies I will have the money to pay the vet and replace him. I would not pay for insurance on my dog or cat. However, there are many vets offices that will help you if you can not afford to take your pet to the vet and will allow payment plans.

Over the long haul on average the insurance will cost more than the treatments.
    My pets are self insured.
