I’ve been researching some insurance companies for my cats. I’m really not sure which to pick though. Am I looking for a plan that includes office/wellness? Should I select a $500 deductible? How much is too much a month for two young cats? Does anyone have some suggestions on what I should be looking for? Do I even need insurance? I’ve always had dogs and their medical bills have been CRAZY to say the least. So I was thinking insurance would help just in case.
FYI: I have two kittens. Samson is a black and white DMS, 5 months old, neutered. Delilah is a calico DMS, 4 months, getting spayed in April.

I did once and won’t again. You pay a premium, it has a deductible, the insurance company pays a percentage of what it feels is reasonable (despite I’m in a higher cost area), and if one year your pet is diagnosed with a chronic condition, unless you are on a very high level and costly plan, the illness won’t be covered in subsequent years. All in all, it’s a losing proposition in most cases. I’d save your money in a pet fund account and use that to cover medical bills.
My cat needed knee surgery and it wasn’t covered under ANY circumstances, even if the cat was hit by a car (which it wasn’t). I was out $2500, plus the cost of the insurance, deductible, my portion of the vet bills and during the year I got back less than $200 for vet services including wellness and spaying, so I was definitely in the hole.

a dog is totally different than a cat. And on top of all that, its an animal. Who puts insurance on a domestic animal?

No, I don’t know anyone that has it, but it may be a good idea to get.
