There will be no problems – provided you have a suitable MOT. You may get a reduced offer in the event of a total loss though. I assume the vehicle hasn’t been put on a ‘Q’ reg – that will cause problems.
(Insurance companies don’t even bother asking about whether the car is a write off – they do ask that the vehicle is kept in a roadworthy condition though)

I have no idea what a category D is. But I do know that you can get insurance on almost anything. If it is worth more than $1000, then I know you can.
