My roommate, lets call him John, has recently started burning himself with cigarettes. I asked him about the marks recently and he said they were scars he scratched open. I did not believe this since he had multiple burns on both arms, but I left it alone.
Tonight after I caught a shower I came into our living room and he was sitting on the couch holding a pillow and crying. I asked him what was wrong and he told me that he is paranoid of random things such as a cat that was staring at him as he smoked a cigarette (even though we have our own cats that do not make him nervous) and an open car door in the complex parking lot. Another thing that bothered him is that I have gone on a few dates with a guy. John is in love with me but I don’t return his feelings, and haven’t for three years. There are no mixed signals here.
I’m at a loss. “John” is my best friend I hate to see him so depressed and physically harming himself. I’d suggest counseling but we’re poor punks with no health insurance. He doesn’t use drugs or drink often, his family is emotionally unavailable, and he refuses to try to make new friends.
Any advice would be excellent.

And that alone will draw the medically most expensive to come illegally. Beyond that, since Dems voted down amendments which would have required PROOF that you are here legally, forbidding illegal immigrants to use it is just ‘deniability’. Clearly they are forbidden to be here, as well, yet here they are.
Overall, though, Congress and Obama seem to think they are so high above the people they supposedly serve that only special interest views matter in how OUR health care is managed. That is one in a long list of offenses to ‘representative’ government IMHO.
Do you think outrage now is like the turtle Mack in Yertle the Turtle? Here is part of that to refresh your memory:

I remained conscious throughout the night and didn’t think much of it. I woke up the following morning to find a large tender lump on the side of my head (directly above my right ear) and was experiencing dizziness for almost the entire day. Eating has been somewhat difficult as it hurts when I open my jaw past a certain point. I did NOT vomit or experience any kind of nausea. My neck is stiff and just about every muscle in my upper body is sore. Now normally I’d think nothing of it and just rest for a couple of days but back in August my friend hurt his head, lost consciousness, had a cat scan and there was infact bleeding. Now worry is do I need a cat scan? I know you’re going to say go see your doc but being unemployed and without health insurance kind of makes me only want to go if I truly need to. There’s no black and blues, just swollen above the right ear area. All help is greatly appreciated!!!

He had some medical coverage on his vehicle and before they will give me a definite price they want to know how much insurance he had. He had $25,000 coverage but that amount will not cover all his expenses for 2 ambulance trips, 2 er’s, numerous cat scans, x-rays, doctors, etc. I know medical costs can be negotiated when you can discuss the subject before using their facility but we were in a situation that we weren’t thinking about the cost but about his injuries and what needed to be done.

Every time I move my arms up and down I hear something moving in my throat and it’s causing shooting pain in many different spots in my abdomen. Last time I went 3 months ago I wasn’t in chronic pain so they sent me home saying it wasn’t an emergency. Since then the pain has quadrupled and is constant. I’m worried that if I go again they will send me home and it will be a waste of time and I’m out 300 dollars for the so called diagnostic.
What are somethings that I can say that forces them to treat me/ look into what my issues are.
I do not want to incur some massive hospital bill but now I feel as though this could mean life or death I’m 23/m so my constant pain is not normal.
The only way I can make the constant pain in my ribs go away is by cracking my back but then it comes back 20 minutes later.
Do these problems seem like I should go to the ER? Mainly I want a CAT scan done what do I have to say is hurting to get them to admit me? I feel because I don’t have insurance they’re going to be on the ultra defensive in terms of helping me so I need to say the right stuff because last time months ago was fruitless.

His life has just been absolutely horrible lately- his grandmother and cat both died, he’s had trouble at work, trouble with money.. you name it, its happened. The thing is, he’s usually very resilient, and he isn’t bouncing back this time. Since everything went wrong, he just sits around, smokes pot (which isn’t unusual) and plays video games when he isn’t at work. He’s been skipping out on some hours at work, too. He won’t smile, and barely shows any emotion at all. His sex drive has completely dissapeared He’s usually very active, but I can’t even get him to go outside. He won’t talk to me about it (apparently he can’t put it into words), and without health insurance, he can’t afford medication or therapy. (we’re in a rural area.. any free clinic is too far away).
What can I do or say to help him? Will this pass on its own, the way it usually does? Any advice?
